Butter Making!!!

My youngest was studying pioneer days this week. Today they were taking a trip to Sauder Village. Earlier this week, he had a project-list of things to do and chose to make butter. Much easier than I expected to be honest!!

All you need... (not shown is ice)

First, you have to let your cream set out for 2 hours. We used just 2c. so I poured it into the measuring cup and let it sit out to room temp, then poured it into this jar.

Put the lid on, and shake up and down.

See how it's becoming solid?

Yea. We duct-taped the top cause it sprung a leak. We had 3 people shaking it... directions said for 10-20 minutes... up and down... it helped to have help!

Use a sieve and drain off the buttermilk, this is what your left with...

Add some ice cubes, let them melt just a little and then work the water and ice into the butter with your fingers until the butter is cold.

Drain off the water and toss the ice cubes when your butter is cold. Add 1/4 tsp salt.

Mix in and your left with this. Mmm delicious homemade butter.

Put it in a container and use accordingly! Enjoy!!! 'Effin delicious! And it was easier than we thought it'd be!!
